It’s an incredibly strange time to be a creator. While the world around us shifts, and being overwhelmed with anxiety becomes a normal mode of operating for most, we find ourselves turning to things like music to help us stay grounded. Isolation is heavy, but a great pop song can help foster moments of lightness amid the chaotic present.
With the release of their new single, Fashion Ho, CHAV hopes to help others find some brightness and relief in this exact brand of joyful pop music.
“I think there needs to be equal parts of reflection, what it means to really capitalize on this moment, as well as having moments of joy and inviting some light in these grey days,” says CHAV, about releasing pop music in this strange time that we’re living in.
“R
egardless of what we look like, what we dress like, where we come from, we have a right to take up space with who we are.”
CHAV.
Fashion Ho is a celebration of the body, and all of the ways that we can find identity and meaning in the way we present ourselves outwardly to the world. In that sense, acknowledging all the dimensions of our identity is foundational to understanding creative output, says CHAV. Their identity as a person who is Black, non-binary, and who grew up with limited resources informs the way that they animate their life and how they produce work.
“Regardless of what we look like, what we dress like, where we come from, we have a right to take up space with who we are,” says CHAV.
Listen to Fashion Ho today and find some time to feel joy, brightness, and relief.
Fashion Ho was produced by Brett Castro and Eric Trudel, and the single art is by Carol Civre.
